So you want to learn how to skate? You’ve come to the right place!
Jacksonville Ice & Sportsplex welcomes you to the U.S. Figure Skating Basic Skills Program. The Basic Skills program will help you learn all the FUNdamentals of figure skating – it’s simply the best way to take to the ice. The Basic Skills program is designed by U.S. Figure Skating to be the best beginning ice skating program that is fun, challenging, and rewarding. The Jacksonville Ice Basic Skills Learn to Skate Program runs throughout the year and is taught by U.S. Figure Skating Certified instructors. Skaters begin by learning the basics starting with Snow Plow Sam (Tots) through 8 levels of Basic Skills and Adults level 1-4. Basic Skills group classes offer a fun and relaxed environment for skaters of all skill levels. Groups are formed with skaters of similar age and skill. Participants meet once a week for a 30-minute class followed by 20 minutes of supervised practice time. Sessions are 8-weeks long with achievement testing during the seventh week of class. Skaters may earn achievement badges or certificates as they advance through the U.S. Figure Skating Association curriculum. At the end of each eight-week session we will hold a recital for all Basic Skills Skaters.
Home School Class
Homeschool students have their own special eight-week session for only $75.00*. All enrolled Home School skaters can earn their Physical Education credit. Classes start at 10:00am and are 30 minutes long. After class the enrolled students get to stay for public session weekly and enjoy the rest of the public session for fun and practice until 12pm! *No additional discounts or practice times apply.
Beginning Freestyle Ice Sessions
These 25 minute sessions are an introduction to Freestyle Ice Sessions for Snow Plow Sam through Basic 3 skaters who have begun private lessons. These sessions are for practice only and the ice will be shared with various Academy Program classes.
The Bridge Program is for skaters in Basic 4, 5, 6, 7 & 8. Once a skater passes into Basic 4, they automatically
become a member of the Bridge Program. Bridge program Vests are available for purchase.
Free Skate Class
Continue to build a strong ice skating foundation with classes offered from Free Skate 1 – 6.
Sessions are 8-weeks long with achievement testing on Week Seven. Skaters may earn achievement badges
or certificates as they advance through the U.S. Figure Skating Association curriculum.
